A Mighty Morning: Cheshire Bridge Volunteers Show Unwavering Dedication and Clean Up 45 Bags of Trash

The May 16th "Beautify Cheshire Bridge" cleanup was a profound display of community spirit, proving once again that the Piedmont Heights area is home to mighty, engaged volunteers. A formidable group of business owners, community leaders from Piedmont Heights, LaVista Park, Morningside and Lindridge Martin-Manor, and dedicated residents rolled up their sleeves for a massive Saturday morning effort to keep the Cheshire Bridge Road commercial corridor vibrant and clean.

Their collective effort was truly astonishing, with 36 dedicated volunteers uniting to sweep, sort, and haul litter from the streets. This intensive cleanup resulted in the removal of 45 bags of trash from the local area.

A special note of thanks must be given to Halpern Enterprises. Their team showed up in force to demonstrate their dedication to their Cheshire Square property, not only sponsoring the essential breakfast and cleanup supplies but actively participating in the hard work alongside residents and community leaders. This partnership highlights the powerful impact created when local property owners invest their time and energy directly into the neighborhood.

Beyond the sheer volume of waste collected, the haul included some unique, if regrettable, discoveries that underscored the need for continuous cleanup: lots and lots of cigarette butts, a pair of shoes, socks and gloves found on separate sides of the road, 2 Kroger shopping carts, a broken beer bottle mounted on a stick, a hair weave, fossilized chicken bones, a half-buried light fixture, various car parts, battery packs, and condoms.
