PROTECT YOUR BUSINESS WITH LIABILITY STATEMENTS + SIGNS

Effective 8.7.20, under Georgia's new COVID liability shield law, businesses are required to post a very specific sign in order to gain the law's protection from COVID-related lawsuits.

RECEIPT MESSAGE AND SIGNS HAVE TO BE A SPECIFIC SIZE AND FOLLOW STRICT GUIDELINES TO BE VALID!

    • RECEIPT: Includes a statement in at least ten-point Arial font placed apart from any other text, stating the following warning:
      • Any person entering the premises waives all civil liability against this premises owner and operator for any injuries caused by the inherent risk associated with contracting COVID-19 at public gatherings, except for gross negligence, willful and wanton misconduct, reckless infliction of harm, or intentional infliction of harm, by the individual or entity of the premises.
    • SIGNAGE: An individual or entity of the premises has posted at a point of entry, if present, to the premises, a sign in at least one-inch Arial font placed apart from any other text, a written warning stating the following:
'Warning 127 Under Georgia law, there is no liability for an injury or death of an individual entering these premises if such injury or death results from the inherent risks of contracting COVID-19. You are assuming this risk by entering these premises.'

Our second Beautify PiHi event on Friday, August 7th was an incredible success with 30 volunteers and the Brightview Landscaping crew!  We tackled a lot of trash, kudzu and overgrown weeds and brush along Armour Drive NE starting at the MARTA overpass to the intersection of Armour and Ottley Drives.

Preferred Office was the main lead sponsor by coordinating with PiHi Alliance and providing their landscape company, Brightview Landscaping to weed wack and remove over 30 bags of trash and 15 piles of green debris. They also provided trash bags, trash pickers and gloves.

The clean up was sponsored by the Woof's Atlanta crew. Fifteen of their staff with friends and family showed up ready to get dirty all for a good cause! They worked hard and made a huge difference!

Many thanks to Nakato Japanese Restaurant, Bob Glasscock of Coldwell Banker Realty, Sewingmachine.com and idealDESIGN,inc for showing up to pitch in.

Our neighborhood association, Piedmont Heights Civic Association board members also joined in the effort.

Our next clean up is October. We are looking for an area to clean up and a business or businesses to sponsor the event by providing one or more of the following:

    • Volunteers
    • Lunch for volunteers
    • Pay for and provide landscaping company support
    • Trash bags, gloves, trash pickers etc..

The first Piedmont Heights Alliance get into action effort! Beautify PiHi!

Thank you to James Hurley Designs for spearheading this initiative and showing how much you care for the neighborhood. James was inspired when friends mentioned that entering the neighborhood off of I-85, they would have never known it was a thriving part of town because of the overgrown weeds and trash.

James brought the idea for media clean up to the Piedmont Heights Alliance board of directors in early May. "What a great way to show some progress when life seems to be on pause due to COVID" said PiHi Alliance president Bob Glascock of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage

PiHi Alliance focused on the exit and entrances on Monroe Drive as well as Monroe and Piedmont Road intersections. Over the course of the entire day, over 16 people volunteered their time to pick up trash, pull weeds, expose sidewalks, paint curbs and meet business neighbors in the area. James Hurley Designs sponsored a landscape crew to clean up curbs, mow grass and haul away debris.

Thank you to Nakato Japanese Restaurant for bringing out a crew first thing in the morning and cleaning up Piedmont and Monroe intersection medias.

Thank you to Piedmont Heights Civic Association, Preferred Office, idealDESIGN,inc and Bob Glascock | Coldwell Banker Residential for cleaning up over 10 bags of trash from the Monroe and I-85 exit/entrance medians.

Thank you to Roxx Tavern, 1824 Cheshire Bridge, for providing lunch to the hardworking crew. The owner, Dean, stopped by during clean up and extended the offer of lunch to show his appreciation!

It takes initiative, caring and time to make a difference. For more photos of the clean up, visit Beautify PiHi.

Sign up to volunteer or sponsor August 7th Beautify PiHi event here.

James Hurley Designs, a PiHi Alliance member, is located at 1959 Piedmont Road NE, Suite B next to fellow member, G Salon & Spa

    On the Federal Tax Deferrals

The federal government is now allowing deferrals for 100% of the social security payroll tax paid by employers and deferral for 50% of social security costs paid by self-employed individuals. This is applicable to any tax deposits due between 3/27/20 and 12/31/2020.

    Why it's right for you:

The social security payroll tax amounts to 6.2% of gross wages. You can pay 50% of the taxes by December 2021 and the other 50% by December 2022.

    Things to note:

If you defer these tax deposits, you as the employer are solely liable for payment by the extended due date.

Employers that participate in the PPP are not eligible for this program. However, they can defer taxes up until the date the employer applies for and receives a decision that their PPP loan has been forgiven.

    On Employee Retention Credit (ERC)

    Why it's right for you:

For each quarter through the end of 2020, employers are eligible for a credit of up to 50% of the first $10,000 in qualified wages for each qualified employee. This employee retention credit is limited to the 6.2% employer share of Social Security taxes subject to several conditions, and any excess credit is refundable.

    Things to note:

You cannot get this credit if you have a PPP loan.

    1.     LET CONGRESS KNOW SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS NEED MORE FUNDING

Since Friday, April 3, small businesses have been applying for Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) forgivable loans authorized under the CARES Act that was enacted on March 27.

Business owners have experienced setbacks while applying for the PPP forgivable loans and the Small Business Administration (SBA) Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) and Emergency Grants. Further appropriations and improvements to the PPP are needed as well as increased access to EIDLs and Emergency Grants.

Congress needs to hear from you NOW. Tell them your experience applying for PPPL and EIDLs and how they need to improve and expand these programs immediately.

Act NOW and urge your Senators and Representative to improve and expand access to the PPP, EIDLs, and Emergency Grants.
